We reversed FDA’s policy! With your help, we’ll do more!
Kicking off Mercury-Free Dentistry Week with an interview of yours truly, Dr. Joseph Mercola puts $150,000 on the table, offering to match all donations to Consumers for Dental Choice this week.
Dr. Mercola takes this generous step because he’s impressed by how we reversed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s decades-old position favoring amalgam use. (As a former federal and state public official when I was in my 20s and 30s, I can’t overemphasize the challenge of – and the high odds against – persuading a government agency to change course).
Now FDA advises to end amalgam use for broad categories of Americans, a number clearly exceeding 100,000,000 people, including:
First, we urged FDA to double down on getting its new message directly to consumers. FDA released infographics illustrating its new amalgam recommendations in both English and (at our request) Spanish.
Second, we mobilized the grassroots to respond when FDA asked for public comment on how to communicate the long-term health risks of medical devices like amalgam. Here’s a shout-out to all who submitted comments and the 51 dentists and other health professionals who signed onto our letter urging FDA to take specific – and effective – action. Thanks!
Third, we emphasize that many people do not realize they belong to the high-risk populations who FDA says should avoid amalgam. For example, many women do not know they are pregnant early in their pregnancy and 90% of people with kidney disease don't know they have it. So the best way to avoid amalgam use in these high-risk populations is to not use amalgam for anybody.
To keep our effective and efficient 501(c)(3) non-profit group going – with our FDA campaign and beyond – Dr. Mercola matches every dollar you give this week up to $150,000. You’ve seen us beat the odds time and time again – in the states, in Washington, and in the international arena. The stakes are now the highest they’ve been. Please step up!

When it comes to weighing the cost factors of dentures, you may have asked yourself, "Can I afford them?" Social Circle, GA dentist Dr. Jones and the team at his office do all they can to ensure denture treatment, is affordable. The equally important question to ask is, "Can I afford not to have dentures?" Dr. Jones will explain the cost factors of dentures and the importance of seeking treatment for tooth loss.
Explaining the cost factors of dentures
It is important to check your dental insurance plan because most providers cover some to all of the costs of dentures. The type of dental materials used is one of the factors included in the treatment cost. Additional procedures can increase the overall price of dentures. Regardless of the type of treatment, our team is always available to assist you with insurance coverage questions.
Meeting the unique needs of patients with dentures
Just as we do all we can to meet the individual financial needs of patients, we provide various treatment options to meet patients' needs. We provide partial and full dentures to restore health and beauty to the smile. Partial dentures can replace one or more missing teeth. Full dentures can replace an arch of lower or upper teeth or both arches of teeth. With either type, patients can enjoy restored ability to speak and eat the foods they love.
The importance of seeking treatment for tooth loss
When tooth loss is untreated, several issues can develop. Teeth can shift into gaps from missing teeth. Tooth decay and gum disease may develop. Patients can experience difficulty pronouncing certain words. They also may have to eat softer foods due to tooth loss. In severe situations, the gums may begin to shrink. As a result, the facial structure can collapse.
Ask yourself, again, if you can afford to live with tooth loss. The answer is most likely, "no." Tooth loss can be detrimental to your physical as well as emotional health and wellbeing. It can cause embarrassment and affect your self-esteem. Fortunately, you do not have to live this way. Dr. Jones can help. Schedule a consultation appointment with him by calling 770-464-1900.
Patients may be missing teeth for many different reasons including trauma or malnutrition. Regardless, of the cause, partial dentures can fill the gaps in smiles. With removable or fixed dentures, the beauty and health of smiles can be restored safely and effectively. Dr. Jones sees patients from Social Circle, GA and beyond at our practice, Social Circle Dental. Patients seek Dr. Jones and our team for our holistic and biological approach to dental care. We understand, and are mindful of the effect the mouth, teeth, and gums can have on the whole body. Therefore, we offer safe, conservative, and highly effective treatments such as dentures to improve the health of smiles.
What is it like living with partial dentures? Patients can count on a restored ability to bite and chew properly, which can improve digestion. Missing teeth can make it difficult to pronounce certain words. Partial dentures can restore the ability to speak clearly. There are emotional benefits as well. When patients can smile confidently they are more inclined to enjoy socializing. This can increase self-esteem and renew confidence in their personal and professional lives.
Studies show people with attractive smiles are more likely to get promoted at work. Smiles are among the first features people notice when meeting others. Attractive smiles can instill the confidence needed to land jobs or go on dates. Smiling releases endorphins, naturally boosting the mood.
At Social Circle Dental, we observed patients with attractive smiles are more inclined to keep them healthy. Therefore, they are more diligent about brushing their teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes as recommended by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association. Flossing becomes a daily habit to ensure food is removed between the teeth and gums. They begin scheduling and keeping their dental check-ups for cleanings and examinations.
Dr. Jones has been delivering healthier smiles for more than 45 years. If you suffer from tooth loss, he would be happy to meet with you and explore all of your tooth replacement options. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Jones, call 770-464-1900 today.
When you envision dentures, you may picture gum-colored prosthetics in glasses on your grandparents’ nightstands. The truth is dentures are for patients of all ages and have come a long way over the years. They can provide optimal function, comfort, stability, and beauty. Patients of Dr. Jones in Social Circle have provided rave reviews about their denture treatments. Dr. Jones is a skilled dentist who ensures patients have affordable quality dentures that look and fit the best.
As a holistic dentist, Dr. Jones understands replacing missing teeth can improve oral as well as overall health. Left untreated, tooth loss can cause teeth to shift out of place due to gaps from missing teeth. In severe cases, the jawbone erodes and the facial structure will look sunken.
Congenital absence, periodontal disease, and trauma can cause tooth loss. Fortunately, Dr. Jones can provide partial or complete dentures, depending on the extent of tooth loss. When missing a few teeth, he may recommend partial dentures. Complete dentures can replace an entire arch of teeth.
To determine the right type of dentures, we recommend scheduling a consultation with Dr. Jones. At your appointment, he will examine your mouth, teeth, and gums and review your medical history. We may take impressions of the mouth and x rays of the jawbone and soft tissues. We can use an intra-oral camera to examine conditions that may be undetected with the unassisted eye. We can then display the images on a computer screen to aid us in the discussion of a recommended treatment plan.
After your appointment, we send the impressions to a dental laboratory for fabrication of the dentures. Dr. Jones will check the dentures for precise fit and desired appearance before placement. With proper care and maintenance, dentures can last a decade a more. Therefore, it is critical to maintain healthy oral hygiene habits and regular dental check-ups. At follow-up appointments, Dr. Jones can check the dentures for optimal function.
When it comes to the cost of dentures, there are various factors to consider. The type of dental material used, the location of the dental office, the expertise of the dentist, and the type of dentures can determine the overall cost. We recommend checking your dental insurance plan because most providers cover some to all of the cost of dentures. Rest assured we have a knowledgeable team that can assist you with insurance coverage questions.
Dentures can restore the ability to speak, bite, and chew properly. To learn more about the advantages of dentures, schedule a consultation with Dr. Jones by calling 770-464-1900.
At Social Circle Dental, we believe education is empowering. Therefore, we do all we can to educate patients about all of their options. One of the treatments available for replacing missing teeth and surrounding tissues is dentures. We are happy to explain the types of dentures available in our office near Covington, GA.
We use partial dentures to replace one to several teeth. Partial dentures fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, as well as prevent other teeth from drifting out of position. Partial dentures are created to blend naturally with the smile.
We use complete dentures to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. We take our time to ensure precise fit and ideal appearance of dentures before they are placed. Dr. Jones will make a wax-up of the dentures to ensure the patient is comfortable with them. Then, dentures are fabricated at a high quality dental laboratory.
Another option for patients is implant-supported dentures. they are fitted with special snaps. A patient can snap the denture in place, and they will not slide or fall out. Implant-supported dentures provide the most stability to denture wearers. Dr. Jones will work with an oral surgeon, who places the implants into the jawbone. After the jawbone has healed, Dr. Jones places the dentures on top of the implants.

If you have a gap from a congenitally missing tooth, or have lost one due to trauma or extraction, you may be considering a dental implant. This method of tooth replacement has been in use in this country since the early 1980s. It is gaining popularity because the implant restoration looks natural, feels normal in the mouth, and functions like a real tooth – plus, it can last a lifetime with good care. Many patients are concerned, though, about how dental insurance will respond to a tooth implant procedure. Social Circle dentist, Dr. Don Jones, shares these important points.
The insurance landscape is changing
Every insurance plan is different, and coverages and conditions can change at any time, with appropriate notice to participants. However, at this time, dental insurance plans generally apply the following logic to dental implants. First, because other options for tooth replacement are available, getting a dental implant is considered “elective.” Second, elective procedures are not covered if a less costly alternative is available. So, dental insurance typically pays a limited amount – roughly the “usual and customary fee” for a partial denture or bridge – toward the cost of a dental implant. There may also be some coverage for diagnostic tests and tooth extraction, and medical insurance could cover bone grafts if necessary. As dental implants become more common, some premium insurance plans are covering the cost of the procedure.
In you participate in an FSA (flexible spending account), where you set aside pre-tax dollars for medical expenses, you are in luck. Because a dental implant is not considered purely cosmetic in nature, the procedure is an eligible expense – the oral surgery, placement of the post, and the crown restoration.
Not your only option
It is important to know that a dental implant is not your only choice to restore your smile and oral function. Dr. Jones will be happy to talk with you about the possibility of a dental bridge or a partial denture. Regardless of insurance status, these alternatives make sense for many patients.

Whether you call it brain juice, brew, cupped lightening, morning thunder, or plain old java, if you are a coffee drinker, you aren't alone. About 54 percent of American adults rely on coffee every day. On average they consume 3.1 cups daily and spend about $165 a year on coffee. For many of us, it starts the day and keeps the brain going. It is also a primary cause of dingy dentition. Dr. Don Jones and his hygiene team at Social Circle Dental help patients throughout the Monroe area enjoy their Joe and still have bright smiles, with professional teeth whitening.
Why Coffee Stains Teeth
Coffee actually contributes to tooth discoloration in two ways. First and most obvious is coffee's dark pigment. Coffee beans are the seeds of an evergreen shrub. The bushes bear red fruit called coffee cherries. It is picked and processed, leaving only a light tan parchment covering on the seeds. The parchment layer is hulled, revealing brown coffee beans. Depending on the roasting process, beans may turn almost back in color. When the beans are ground and steeped in hot water, dark pigmentation is released along with a tantalizing aroma and flavor.
While it isn't apparent, tooth enamel is porous. Particles of dark pigment from coffee settle into microscopic pits and grooves in enamel. Stains become especially obvious between teeth, where they are tougher to remove with brushing and where tooth contours cast natural shadows.
The second way coffee stains teeth is through acidity. The acids in coffee contribute to enamel erosion, which exposes the yellowish layer of dentin underneath. Basically the same pigments and acids are present in all coffee beverages, so it doesn't significantly reduce risk of staining if you add cream.
Professional Whitening to the Coffee Drinker's Rescue!
Abrasive "whitening" toothpastes scrape off some of the surface stains, but they also scratch enamel, creating more grooves to trap coffee pigment and eventually adding to the problem.
Dr. Jones recommends whitening with professional strength peroxide gel in custom-made trays that fit comfortably. Dr. Jones customizes the whitening formula to your needs. You wear the trays for an hour or two a day, while the whitening agent loosens and lifts even deep stains from tooth enamel. The process is gradual, to minimize risk of sensitivity and maximize safety. You begin to see a brighter smile after just a few applications, and full results in about two weeks. With good home hygiene, your bright smile can easily last a year or more.
Professional teeth whitening lets you enjoy your go juice and a gorgeous smile. Call Social Circle Dental today at 770-464-1900 to get started.
Teeth whitening treatment can do more than brighten your smile. It can boost your confidence and rejuvenate your appearance. When self-esteem increases, we are generally happier and more likely to smile. Dr. Jones, a respected dentist in Social Circle, understands the importance of a healthy and beautiful grin. He views cosmetic treatments as healthy enhancements to the lifestyles of patients in Covington and surrounding areas.
Providing Gentle, Effective Teeth Whitening Treatment
There are multiple ways to attain a bright smile. From whitening toothpastes to gel strips, the drug store shelves are full of options. However, the most effective method has proven to be a professional whitening treatment. Many dentists offer power bleaching and laser whitening treatments. Patients can walk away with a brighter smile within an hour, but there can be an increased risk of sensitivity to super-strength chemicals. Therefore, Dr. Jones provides a convenient, affordable, yet effective at-home whitening program. He is mindful of patient sensitivity to chemicals and provides a variety of bleaching gel options to ensure a comfortable tooth whitening experience.
For treatment, we will take impressions of your dental arches, which will be used to create customize whitening trays. This can ensure the whitening gel remains in the trays and is less likely to affect your gums while whitening your teeth at home. Wear the trays daily for maximum results. After treatment, you can embrace a smile up to eight shades brighter.
Benefits of a Beautiful, Bright Smile
Studies show the smile is one of the first features people notice about each other. Therefore, it is no surprise that teeth whitening is one the most popular treatments in cosmetic dentistry, and in our office. Patients who have sparkling white teeth are more likely to keep them clean and bright with proper oral hygiene habits.
Is it time to attain a smile and confidence that sparkles and shines? Do you long for a Hollywood smile? Dr. Jones understands the importance of looking and feeling beautiful. He will be happy to meet with you to discuss your options. Schedule a consultation with him by calling 770-464-1900 today.
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular treatments in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Jones and our team in Social Circle, GA have seen why patients love brighter smiles. We will explain how a whiter smile can improve overall physical and emotional health and wellbeing.
How Teeth Whitening Can Improve Physical Health and Wellbeing
After attaining a whiter smile patients are more inclined to take care of their pearly whites. We often see patients improve their oral hygiene habits and maintain their dental check-ups. As a result, they brush their teeth more often and include flossing in their oral hygiene regimens. They may change their food and beverage choices. They know firsthand that coffee, tea, colas, berries, and sauces can leave unwanted tooth stains. Therefore, they do their best to avoid these beverages and foods. They may incorporate nutritious foods into their diets. After making all of these changes, they usually feel better about themselves.
How Teeth Whitening Can Improve Emotional Health and Wellbeing
The body releases endorphins when a person smiles. Endorphins are often called "feel good" hormones. This is just one of many reasons Dr. Jones loves helping patients attain the smiles of their dreams. He has seen their confidence increase as they walk out of the office with brighter smiles. He understands the power of attractive smiles. Studies show smiles are among features people notice upon meeting each other. Feeling confident about their smiles can help them land jobs or impress friends at class reunions.
Choosing a Teeth Whitening Treatment That is Right For You

It starts with scheduling a consultation with Dr. Jones. He will examine the health of your mouth, teeth, and gums and explore your candidacy for teeth whitening. If you are a candidate, you will have impressions taken of your dental arches. These are used to fabricate customized whitening trays. You then take the trays and whitening gel home to whiten your teeth when it is most convenient for you. After a few weeks, you can count on a whiter smile and possibly renewed confidence.
