Dental crown treatment has been a common procedure for over a century. In some situations, this may be the most efficient option for restoring a nice, healthy appearance and full function. Dr. Don Jones has been providing excellent biological dental care to patients from Social Circle and surrounding areas for many years. Before recommending dental crown treatment, a thorough consultation and examination are performed, and alternative treatments are considered. The priority in our office is to restore the greatest degree of oral health in the most conservative way. Some of the instances in which dental crowns may be most suitable for Social Circle Dental patients include: • A fracture around an existing filling, or tooth damage beneath the filling has occurred. Replacing one filling with another may be possible, but a crown may be most suitable if the cavity has grown quite large. • Fractures, worn down, or broken teeth must be fully covered in order to regain function and strength. • Root canal therapy may be necessary to remove deep infection within the pulp chamber of a tooth. This procedure removes the tissues within the pulp chamber, including the tooth root. Because of root canal therapy, the treated tooth can become brittle. Crowns are often placed as a preventive measure, protecting the natural tooth structure from further damage. • Crowns may be used cosmetically in some circumstances when other, more conservative options like veneers or bonding are not sufficient to address a cosmetic problem. Metal-free crowns are ideal in most situations. For front teeth, especially, all-ceramic crowns will produce the most natural appearance. Metal-free crowns are not only for teeth visible in the smile. Your dentist may suggest a healthy, metal-free crown for the repair of a molar, as well. All-ceramic crowns, such as those made with CEREC technology, are proven safe, efficient, and extremely long lasting.
If your smile is in need of repair, we can help. Contact Social Circle Dental to schedule your visit with Dr. Jones.
