Implants
A dental implant is a tiny post, made from titanium and surgically implanted in the jawbone. Implants may be recommended in various situations. Most commonly, a single implant supports a specially designed porcelain crown to replace one missing tooth. However, multiple implants and different types of restorations can be used to replace several or all of the teeth.
The procedure for placing implants is straightforward and routine, but it is precision work. Dr. Jones works with a trained specialist, who has considerable experience doing implant surgery. If you decide that implants are right for you, he will refer you to the proper surgeon. You will be numbed before the procedure begins, and sedation will be available if you choose. There is very little pain or soreness afterward, but it will take several months for the bone to bond with the implant. After this process is complete, the specialist will refer you back to us.
Dr. Jones will design and place the restorations. Your new teeth will be secured to the implants with tiny connectors, called abutments. When the process is complete, the implant and abutment will be hidden completely. The only thing anyone will see is a beautiful smile!
The crowns and bridges used with implants are made out of porcelain, which looks just like a real tooth. It has a smooth, glassy surface that sparkles subtly, just like the enamel on healthy teeth. They will be colored to match your existing teeth perfectly, so no one will know they aren't real!
Dentures supported by implants are very similar to traditional removable dentures, except they are fitted with special snaps. You can snap your denture teeth in place, and they won't slide or fall out. You can eat whatever you want without concern. When it's time to clean your teeth, they snap out.
We also offer traditional dentures and bridges for patients who don't want implants. If you are missing teeth, we have a great solution! Call (770) 464-1900 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Jones.
